The Museum of Dvůr Králové nad Labem invites visitors to a remarkable exhibition titled “Noah Breuer: Return Home,” running from September 26 to November 16, 2025 in the Špýchar Gallery. American artist Noah Breuer presents work inspired by the history of his family’s textile enterprise Karel Breuer & Sons, which operated in Dvůr Králové in the early 20th century. The exhibition offers not only a deeply personal artistic project but also a symbolic “return” of lost cultural heritage.
Art Between Memory and the Present
Mr. Breuer’s practice merges traditional graphic and textile techniques with 21st-century digital tools. The exhibition features not only prints but also paper, textile, and glass installations. He transforms historic fabric patterns into new artworks with playful motifs—circus acrobats, airplanes, automobiles—interwoven with symbols that allude to the tragic fate of his Jewish family. One of the most striking pieces is a textile with a circus motif overlaid with a yellow Star of David. It recalls the paradox that such stars were produced during World War II in the family factory in Dvůr Králové, the very symbols Jews were forced to wear.
A Personal Return with a Universal Story
For Noah Breuer, “Return Home” is a journey toward his own identity and an effort to preserve a story silenced for decades. Yet the exhibition is more than a personal testimony; it opens broader questions of memory, cultural heritage, loss, and the possibility of reinterpreting history. His goal was not merely to reproduce the recovered patterns, but to reinterpret them and create entirely new works that connect past and present. The exhibition “Noah Breuer: Return Home” brings to Dvůr Králové a powerful narrative of loss and the rediscovery of family memory. Visitors are invited to experience both the work of a contemporary American artist and a chapter of the town’s history that deserves to be remembered.
